Mexican wrestling legend Rey Mysterio Sr., whose real name was Miguel Angel Lopez Dias, has passed away at the age of 66.
The news was confirmed by his family and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, a prominent Mexican wrestling promotion.
Rey Mysterio Sr. began his wrestling career in January 1976 and officially retired in 2009, although he made a few appearances in the ring after his retirement.
Rey Mysterio Sr. was the uncle of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio Jr. and the great-uncle of WWE superstar Dominik Mysterio. He was known for his incredible skill and charisma in the ring, and he played a significant role in mentoring and shaping the careers of many wrestlers, including his nephew.
The wrestling community has been paying tribute to Rey Mysterio Sr., remembering his contributions to the sport and his gracious spirit outside the ring.
This tragic news comes just weeks after the passing of Rey Mysterio Jr.’s father, Roberto Gutierrez, who died at the age of 76.
