Arne Slot is expected to become Liverpool’s next manager after agreeing a compensation package of up to £9.4 million with Feyenoord.
The Dutchman is likely to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who declared in January that he will depart Anfield at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
“I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I’m waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I’m very confident in that,” the Feyenoord boss has earlier revealed to the media.
Slot guided Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, and this season they won the Dutch Cup and are expected to finish second in their league.
It is believed that Slot’s aggressive style, attitude, and ability to develop players were important considerations in Liverpool’s decision to hire him.
Klopp, Liverpool’s Boss will bow out of Anfield at the end of this season after a nine-year reign which brought the Champions League title in 2019 and Premier League trophy a season later.
Speaking about his successor, Klopp didn’t pretend, he disclosed not to know who Arne Slot is.
“I don’t know him, but some people who know him say he’s a good guy. I like that a lot. So good coach, good guy. Looking forward for the club, if he is the solution, if he is the man, I’m more than happy.
“It’s the best job in the world, best club in the world. Great job, great team, fantastic people. A really interesting job.”
Liverpool was earlier linked to Xabi Alonso, a cult hero at Anfield in his playing days. He has taken management by storm by guiding Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title this season.
The 42-year-old Spaniard put the speculation to rest in March when he announced he would remain with Leverkusen for the time being.
