Ghana’s Black Stars may host their remaining 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) home qualifiers in Nigeria, as reported by multiple sources.
This development follows the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) rejection of the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi due to structural concerns, including poor drainage, uneven playing surfaces, and grass cover.
With other Ghanaian stadiums, such as the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadiums, also failing CAF’s standards, the country currently lacks an approved venue for their upcoming AFCON qualifiers. CAF has instructed Ghana to find an alternative stadium outside the country for their Matchday three and four qualifiers in October.
The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, has emerged as the most likely choice, given its proximity and suitability.
This stadium, with a 30,000 seating capacity, serves as the home ground for Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Other options under consideration include Côte d’Ivoire’s Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Stade de la Paix, Cameroon’s Japoma Stadium, and Morocco’s Berkane Municipal Stadium.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to confirm its decision soon.
