The United Kingdom announced sanctions against businesses associated with the warring groups in Sudan on Monday, which is facing a major humanitarian disaster after a year violence.
The conflict which broke out between the rivals generals in North Africa since April 15 last year has resulted in thousands of deaths with many citizens suffering from famine, sexual assault, widespread ethnic cleansing and executions.
However, many have reportedly fled to neighboring countries.
The British Foreign Minister, David Cameron, stated that Sudan is an issue that the world cannot ignore as those who violate human rights must be held accountable especially the companies that fund the opposing factions
Al-Fakher Advanced Works, a holding company that the RSF uses to export gold, and Alkhaleej Bank, a financial institution that has been funding the organization, are among the targets of the sanctions. Weapons are purchased with the money raised.
A mining and exploration business that donates money to the SAF, Red Rock Mining, will also be santioned. The corporation has strong ties to the Defence Industries System, the SAF’s commercial and manufacturing wing according to the foreign office,
France is requesting more attention and aid contributions for a crisis that officials claim is being overshadowed by the current wars in Gaza and Ukraine as it is organizing an international conference on Sudan.
