Sir Keir Starmer has officially become Prime Minister after meeting with King Charles and is set to give his first speech outside Downing Street.
He accepted the King’s request to form a government following Rishi Sunak’s resignation as Prime Minister and Conservative party leader.
Labour has won one of the largest Commons majorities in history, securing 412 seats, with a majority of around 170, with a few results still pending.
In contrast, the Conservatives have secured only 121 seats, down from 365 five years ago. Senior Tories like Liz Truss, Penny Mordaunt, and Jacob Rees-Mogg are among those who have lost their seats.
The Liberal Democrats have won 71 seats. Nigel Farage has won a seat in parliament at the eighth attempt, with his Reform UK party triumphing in four constituencies. The Green Party has also picked up four sears, the SNP nine and Plaid Cymru four.
Earlier, Sunak apologised to the public after his Conservatives were trounced by Labour in the UK general election.
