On Thursday February 15, 2024, Audrii Cunningham, resident of Livingston area in Texas, went missing around 7:00 am when she left home to catch the bus for school but she never made it to school nor the school bus according to record. Audrii going missing got national attention in the United States of America as authorities searched around the nooks and crannies of the Livingston area for the 11 year old girl.
Sadly, her dead body was found on Tuesday according to authorities. Before announcing this recent sad development, authorities could be seen dashing to an area close to a bridge over the Trinity River encircling the area with yellow tape which implies that the area is now a crime scene. According to authorities, a local water authority had to lower the Trinity River water levels in order to aid the investigations.
The Polk County District Attorney’s office made it known on Tuesday afternoon at the press conference held that the major person of interest in the case, Don Steven McDougal will be charged with a case of capital murder. Steven McDougal lives in a trailer behind Audrii’s residence, he was considered a family friend and he would occasionally accompany the young girl to school or the bus stop.
However, Don Steven McDougal was the last person to see the young lady alive, but it still remains unclear whether he followed and dropped her off at the school bus or not. According to the authorities in charge of the case, he was quite uncooperative during the investigation, however, he led them to several sites on the lake. McDougal is currently in Polk County Jail.
The cause of Audrii Cunnigham’s death is yet to be revealed, nevertheless Audrii’s body is currently with examiners who will determine the cause of her death and how it transpired.
