Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the former Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been jailed following a scandal involving over 400 sex tapes.
The tapes, which featured Engonga with various women, including the wives of prominent figures, were discovered during a fraud investigation.
The scandal has caused widespread outrage in Equatorial Guinea, with many calling for severe punishment.
Engonga, who is also a nephew of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, was arrested after authorities found the explicit videos during searches of his home and office.
Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue condemned the actions, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards unethical behavior in public service.
The government has initiated legal proceedings against Engonga, aiming to hold him accountable for his actions.
The case has highlighted the need for stricter ethical standards and has sparked a broader discussion about the integrity of public officials in Equatorial Guinea.
