The Osun State branch of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed that Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, is preparing to use the next SMEDAN program in Osogbo as a springboard for his 2026 presidential campaign.
Speaking through its Chairman, Sunday Bisi, the party urged President Bola Tinubu to summon Oyetola, the former state governor, to order, and caution him from launching a political campaign.
Speaking further, he said “It is unacceptable for any attempt to begin the 2026 campaign in violation of the Electoral Act.” Just like Mr. President is exerting great effort to fulfill his duties at the federal level, Governor Adeleke has also taken on the moniker Mr. Performer. Now is the moment for leadership.
“We had anticipated that Oyetola would put in a lot of effort to improve his reputation as a lowly former governor, but his performance at the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy thus far has demonstrated that he is unable to meet the standards of good governance of the twenty-first century, which accounts for his lack of focus and inability to fulfill his federal mandate.”
“We implore the former governor to fulfill his duties as a Minister of Marine and Blue Economy in order to atone for his past transgressions before it is too late. He ought to give the Osun people access to excellent administration, something he refused to provide while in charge of affairs.”
In response to the accusation, the All Progressives Congress (APC) state chapter issued a statement led by Tajudeen Lawal stating that since there was no contest scheduled, there was no need to discuss any electoral act infractions.
Lawal asks, “Why does Adeleke and his traveling companions usually get nervous when they see and shadow the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy?”
“The governor and the party have nothing to worry if the Governor Adeleke government is indeed functioning as intended. Even though 2026 is still a very long way off, it is evident from their spiteful comment that they are already terrified of the APC.”
Lawal came to the conclusion that Oyetola was too honorable a guy to utilize his presence as the Special Guest of Honor at the SMEDAN event to start a political campaign.
