The panel, headed by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi state, and tasked with overseeing the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Ondo State announced on Friday that a total of 171,922 verified members would participate in Saturday’s voting process.
The primary is set to take place across 203 wards spanning 18 local government areas, with 16 contenders, including the current governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, vying for the position.
Following a meeting with stakeholders and aspirants on Friday night in Akure, the Secretary of the seven-member committee, Ovie Omo-Agege, disclosed this information.
He mentioned that none of the aspirants had withdrawn or opted out in favor of another candidate prior to the eve of the exercise. The Secretary affirmed that the committee was fully prepared to administer the primary using the direct mode in all 203 wards throughout the state.
He urged the aspirants to advise their supporters to ensure a peaceful conduct of the primary, emphasizing the importance of this for the advancement of the party.
Omo-Agege reassured everyone of the committee’s commitment to adhering strictly to the party’s guidelines and constitution. He pledged to oversee a transparent, fair, and credible election process.
He also mentioned that the committee would work closely with the state’s security agencies to prevent any disruptions of law and order before, during, and after the primary election.
