The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has reported that officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken over their Abuja office, labeling the action as an “unlawful occupation.”
In a statement shared on their X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, SERAP mentioned that the officers were demanding to meet with the organization’s directors.
SERAP has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, urging him to instruct the DSS to cease the harassment and intimidation.
This incident comes shortly after SERAP called on Tinubu to direct the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to reverse the recent increase in the pump price of premium motor spirit (petrol), which the organization described as illegal and unconstitutional.
The rights group has expressed concern that this action by the DSS is part of a broader attempt to suppress their efforts to hold the government accountable.
