Along Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, on Saturday, a gas tanker exploded and claimed a life, while rendering two wounded.
The explosion was confirmed by the Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Mrs Florence Okpe.
“A total of five vehicles were involved, including two Nissan cars with registration numbers AAN 544 YC, LSD 993 CY, a Sino tanker marked T23771 LA, a Micra marked GDB 841 XR and a Honda CRV without registration number,” she said.
In her address to newsmen, six people were involved in the incident. One person who was the motor boy, died in the incident, while two people were injured and rushed to the hospital.
She further explained that the tanker suffered brake failure before it lost control and crashed into the road barricade, and up it went, in flames.
“The fire service was contacted immediately and the scene was cordoned-off to avoid a secondary crash”, she added.
Some shops were also affected.
This is the second tanker explosion within the span of two days, as the previous was recorded at Eleme, Rivers State, claiming lives and causing damages.
