The health workers under the aegis of the Joint Health Workers Unions (JOHESU), earlier today was in a meeting with the Federal Government over salary adjustment, outstanding arrears, overall state of the health workforce and the establishment of timelines for forming boards at tertiary health institution.
Prof Muhammed Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare made this known on Thursday through his X handle.
“The government is working seriously to resolve the outstanding issues that have been lingering for years extending his gratitude to the leaders from the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria as they are willing to transform the healthcare delivering system as well as dedicated to fulfil the President’s promises.”
JOHESU’s members comprises the Medical and Health Workers Unions of Nigeria, the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals and Associated Institutions and Non-Academy Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions.
In a letter written by JOHESU to the Ministry of Finance, Health and Social Welfare and Labour and Employment, it demanded the adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure.
The health workers embarked on strike last May but was suspended after day 12 on June 5, 2023 after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
However, the union threatened to resume the strike if no actions is taken by the FG.
