A tragic incident occurred in Lagos when a young skit maker drowned in a lagoon near a residential estate.
This unfortunate event, reported by X user @SirJarus, has sparked renewed conversations about safety measures around Lagos waterways and the increasing number of drowning incidents.
“Sad evening here. Skitmaking gone wrong. Someone drowned in the Lagoon that borders my estate this evening. They were acting skit. Yet to be found,” he wrote.
“Second case of drowning in three days. I’m now beginning to think there is at least one case of drowning in Lagoon across Lagos on daily basis. Because if this small stretch of Lagoon (less than two kilometers) records casualty almost every other week (mostly site workers that go to swim after work, security personnel, dredging workers etc), I wonder how it is in the 99.9% of other Lagoon banks around Lagos.
“It’s no longer even news here. You just step out of your house and casually hear, “someone drowned in Osa today”. I also take evening walk to the bank of the Lagoon at least once in two weeks, but I don’t step into water for any reason.
“One can only pray – against hope – that the young skitmaker currently in the water returns alive!
