Several students from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) have been reported trapped after a storey building collapsed on Ekhator Street, Ekosodin, a popular area for student accommodation.
The building collapsed following a heavy downpour on Saturday morning in Benin City, Edo State.
According to Sahara Reporters, a university rescue team has managed to rescue some trapped students, with several suffering severe injuries and being rushed to the hospital.
Rescue efforts are still ongoing as one student remains trapped inside the rubble, with reports indicating that the victim has been in contact, pleading for help.
The Dean of Students is on-site, coordinating the rescue efforts with the university’s rescue team.
As of now, the university has not released an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or the number of individuals affected by the incident.
