The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has warned the Federal Government to trash any plan of reversing its earlier ban on certificates obtained from universities in Togo and Republic of Benin.
The students’ body made this call in a statement signed on Saturday by its National Senate Clerk, Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The statement argued that a country of Nigeria’s standards must not allow substandard certificates from mushroom varsities to be tendered and accepted.
“The FG must continue to sanitize the education sector in the country, particularly, the tertiary institutions to ensure delivery of quality and fully baked graduates,” it read.
“We reiterate our support for the FG’s suspension of the certificates from Togo and the Republic of Benin and we appeal to President Bola Tinubu-led administration to make adequate funds and infrastructure available in the nation’s tertiary institutions.”
