The Federal Government has announced the rollout of 708 vehicles today, offering a 50% discount on road transport fares for the Yuletide season.
This initiative, which runs from December 24, 2024, to January 5, 2025, aims to ease the financial burden on Nigerians traveling for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Passengers traveling from major transport hubs such as Abuja, Lagos, Owerri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna will benefit from the scheme.
The government has partnered with key transport stakeholders, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and the Association of Luxurious Bus Owners of Nigeria, to ensure smooth implementation.
The initiative will cover 144 routes, connecting Abuja and Lagos to various state capitals, except Anambra, where passengers will depart from Onitsha. The Ministry of Transportation has directed that the palliative buses be moved to designated loading points early on December 24, 2024, to facilitate the movement of passengers.
Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and avoid the rush, as there will be limited vehicle availability. The government projects that over 271,000 passengers will benefit from the scheme during the festive period.
