The Ebonyi State government has denied rumors that the departure lounge of the Chuba Okadigbo Airport has been converted into a church due to low patronage.
Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki, the Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, labeled the information as false and baseless.
Mrs. Obichukwu clarified that the ministry’s staff holds monthly prayers to re-dedicate and ensure the smooth recommencement of flight operations at the airport.
This statement came in response to a viral video on social media showing individuals purportedly conducting church services at the airport’s departure lounge.
She explained that the prayer service was held to pray for the smooth landing and take-off of aircraft carrying prominent Nigerians attending the burial of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia.
Mrs. Obichukwu emphasized that flight activities have fully recommenced at the airport following the rehabilitation of the runway and urged the public and air travelers to patronize the airport to boost the state’s internally generated revenue.
The commissioner stated that the monthly prayer service aims to seek God’s presence and protection for all travelers, especially during the yuletide season.
She described those spreading the false information as enemies of the state government, unhappy with the massive infrastructural development and empowerment initiatives by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
She praised Governor Nwifuru for his capacity, commitment, prudence, and transparency in all his dealings in the state.
