A fire incident that occured in the early hours of Tuesday razed many shops at Owode Market in Offa, Kwara State.
Goods, especially foodstuff, charcoal and second-hand clothes worth millions of naira in 46 stalls were lost to the fire.
“The authorities are still assessing the situation, but personally, I know at least five shops were affected. The worth of goods and property destroyed can’t be said now until the assessment ends,” one of the traders said.
“There are also several claims as to the cause of the fire until we wait for the fire service to release their statement on it,” the source added.
First responders like fire fighters have been deployed to the incident scene and the fire has been put out.
The Iyaloja-General Offa, Idiat Jumoke, lauded the Fire Service for putting out the fire on time before it could escalate to other sections of the market.
