President Bola Tinubu will discuss the new national minimum wage with the 36 State Governors at the 142nd National Economic Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
The President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, made the unusual appearance of President Tinubu at the upcoming National Economic Council (NEC) meeting known while in Kano, leading a high-level delegation to console Vice President Kashim Shettima on the passing of his mother-in-law.
Conveying the President’s condolences, Gbajabiamila mentioned that President Tinubu would attend the NEC meeting on Thursday, calling this plan exceptional.
“He is indeed saddened and he wished he was here with you. You know our President is very ubiquitous, he can be in a million places at the same time, but unfortunately, this bill, as you well know, calls for him to be at the seat of power.
“Indeed, he will be joining you tomorrow and that’s how important his presence in Abuja is right now. He will be joining you tomorrow at the NEC meeting, which he ever hardly attends, this might even be his first meeting,” Gbajabiamila said.
The meeting follows the Federal Executive Council’s decision on Tuesday to delay the report of the Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage.
This postponement was due to the need for President Tinubu to consult further with other stakeholders, including state governors, local government authorities, and the private sector.
