The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, gave the go-ahead for hiring doctors, nurses, consultants, and other healthcare workers in the state right away.
This was confirmed in a statement by Akin Fagbemi, Chairman, Hospitals Management Board at the end of a meeting with the leadership of the National Association Of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives in Ibadan.
“The governor has approved the immediate recruitment of consultants, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals,” he said.
“The significance of the governor’s decision to recruit additional healthcare professionals as it directly addresses the shortage of staff in hospitals and healthcare centres across the state.
“We praise him for promoting transparency and accountability within the health sector, which aligns with the core values essential for providing quality healthcare services.”
The chairman of the board promised the union leaders that besides the hazard pay that’s been approved and already given, and the hiring process which will begin right away, other concerns raised are actively being tackled, as shown by the discussions during the meeting.
On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, the state branch of the NANNM instructed its members to start an indefinite strike due to the State Government’s lack of response to its eight-point demands.
In a similar development, the Government of Oyo State approved the recruitment of 338 traffic officers.
