The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has opened up on why electricity supply has reduced nationwide.
Adelabu blamed gas constraints on thermal generating companies for the drop in power supply nationwide.
This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by Bolaji Tunji, special adviser, strategic communication and media relation to the Minister of Power.
In order to address the falling supply of electricity, he said, the federal government is trying to ensure that unpaid balances owed to power producing companies are paid.
“The primary cause of this is that generator companies are receiving less gas.”
“The energy delivered to load centers has decreased as a result of this circumstance, which has an impact on the distribution firms’ ability to distribute electricity.”
“Additionally, distribution companies would be able to provide more electricity to Nigerians as a result.”
“We expect an immediate turnaround and acknowledge that the current situation is unsustainable.”
The Transmission Company of Nigeria had previously blamed gas shortages for the decline in bulk power supply.
