Manchester City recorded their fourth loss in as many games with a 2-1 defeat to Brighton, thanks to a late winner from debutant Matt O’Riley.
City started the game strongly, dominating possession and creating several chances. Erling Haaland opened the scoring after 23 minutes, finishing a pass from Mateo Kovacic.
Just two minutes later, Haaland struck the post with a low effort.
Brighton emerged for the second half with more attacking intent. After 52 minutes, Jack Hinshelwood had a big chance, heading an effort from point-blank range straight at Ederson.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side equalized through substitute Joao Pedro after 78 minutes, with the Brazilian capitalizing on a goalmouth scramble. The decisive moment came when substitute Matt O’Riley scored the winner in the 83rd minute, lifting the ball over Ederson to secure all three points for Brighton at the Amex.
