You’re not the only one who is trying to log into your Instagram and Facebook accounts this afternoon but isn’t succeeding.
The majority of users appear to be unable to access the social networking apps globally; reports also indicate that Threads and Facebook Messenger are not functioning.
Sending and receiving WhatsApp messages is proving to be problematic for certain users as well. Each of those belongs to the parent group Meta.It looks that the outage began at roughly 3:20 pm, and there’s been no news on when it will be resolved. A “session expired” or “unexpected error” notification welcomed users.
The global outage tracker Downdetector is displaying more than 160,000 reports of Facebook outages in the United Kingdom. With over 40,000 reports on Instagram, this is one of the largest problems Meta has faced in a long time.

Uncertainty surrounds the root of the issues, but a large number of Facebook and Instagram users have rushed to competitor social media platform X (previously Twitter). Hundreds of users are asking questions and expressing their dissatisfaction on Twitter with the hashtag #facebookdown.
Users have expressed concern that being logged out and seeing a notice stating that their password was incorrect would be a sign that they had been hacked.
