OpenAI has announced the rollout of its Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) to more paying customers of ChatGPT.
The feature, designed to make ChatGPT more conversational, is now being introduced to users in the Plus and Teams tiers, with Enterprise and Edu customers gaining access next week.
The AVM feature has been revamped with a new design, represented by a blue animated sphere, replacing the black dots previously shown. Users will be notified of the feature’s availability through a pop-up in the app.
In addition to the voice mode, OpenAI has introduced five new voices—Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale—bringing the total to nine, with all voice names inspired by nature. Notably absent is the “Sky” voice, which was removed following legal concerns from actress Scarlett Johansson.
While video and screen sharing capabilities are not yet available, OpenAI has improved accents recognition and conversational smoothness in AVM.
The rollout also includes customization features like Custom Instructions and Memory, enhancing the personalization of ChatGPT’s responses.
At present, AVM is unavailable in certain regions, including the EU, the U.K., and several other European countries.
