LG has unveiled its flagship TVs for 2024 just before CES, and they come with some substantial upgrades. The 2024 QNED range offers various sizes, from a massive 98-inch model to more moderately sized versions at 43, 50, 55, 65, 75, and 86 inches.
The standout improvement is the introduction of the a8 AI processor. LG claims this processor delivers a significant boost in AI performance, a remarkable enhancement in graphics capabilities, and processing speeds that are 1.6 times faster. This empowers advanced image processing, enabling features like face, object, and background recognition, dynamic tone mapping, and Personalized Picture Mapping, which lets users fine-tune image quality by selecting their preferred images.
Enhancements aren’t limited to visuals alone; LG has also improved the audio quality with its AI Sound Pro. This promises virtual 9.1.2 surround sound from the TV’s built-in speakers. Additionally, if paired with an LG soundbar, the WOW Orchestra feature integrates it seamlessly with the TV’s speakers, promising an enhanced surround sound experience.
The 2024 LG range offers two types of panels: QNED quantum dot TVs and QNED mini-LED TVs. The former utilizes local dimming, while the mini-LED variants boast Precision Dimming, providing better contrast and backlight control. LG highlights the QNED90 mini-LED model’s “million grey scale,” ensuring improved color depth and detail.
However, beyond hardware or software, LG’s 2024 QNED range stands out for its “webOS Re:New” program. Under this initiative, LG commits to offering free upgrades for its webOS smart TV operating system until at least 2028, ensuring users have access to the latest smart TV features for at least five years. This program also extends to certain 8K QNEDs produced in 2022.
