X (formerly known as Twitter) is set to modify its block feature, allowing blocked users to view public posts from accounts that blocked them.
Independent app researcher Nima Owji noted the change, which was later confirmed by Elon Musk on Monday.
According to Musk, blocked accounts will still be restricted from engaging (e.g., replying or reposting), but will be able to see public posts without encountering the “You’re blocked…” message. Musk argued this change addresses a workaround where blocked users could log out to view public tweets anyway.
While the update focuses on preventing engagement, concerns may arise, particularly for users who rely on the block function for protection against harassment.
Similar changes were attempted in 2013 but were quickly reversed after significant backlash.
