Apple representatives engaged in discussions with U.S. Justice Department officials in an effort to dissuade the agency from pursuing an antitrust lawsuit against the tech giant, as per Bloomberg sources familiar with the matter.
The talks, which took place last week, come amidst ongoing antitrust scrutiny against Apple, which has been under investigation since 2019.
Allegations against Apple include claims that the company has imposed restrictions, both in software and hardware, on its iPhones and iPads, hindering the ability of competitors to effectively challenge its dominance.
Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter, tasked with overseeing the decision to file a lawsuit, was reportedly present at the meetings.
While discussions have transpired, neither Apple nor the Justice Department provided comments on the report. Speculations suggest that a potential lawsuit could materialize by the end of March, underscoring the intensifying regulatory challenges faced by major tech companies like Apple in recent years.
