Barcelona is preparing for a managerial change this summer after reaching a verbal agreement with Hansi Flick. This follows a meeting between Deco and the German coach in London.
Xavi’s future at Barcelona has been uncertain for months. After initially planning to step down, he reversed his decision following a meeting with Laporta.
However, his recent comments about financial constraints and competing with Real Madrid reportedly angered Laporta, who is now determined to replace him.
He is now expected to leave after their last League match of the season against Sevilla on Sunday.
Flick has an outstanding coaching history, guiding Bayern Munich to a remarkable six titles in 2020, such as the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Champions League trophies. After leaving the German national team in September 2023, Flick hasn’t been with a club, which means he could be a good choice for Barcelona’s main coaching position.
Reports indicate that on Wednesday, the 24th of April, Flick shared with a Barcelona player he’s close to that he’ll be assuming control of the team. This sheds light on the confusion within the Barcelona squad.
Flick has previously coached Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ilkay Gundogan during their time with the German national team, albeit with varying degrees of success. It’s probable that one of these three players was the individual Flick spoke to.
