Sporting Lisbon have sacked manager Joao Pereira after just eight games in charge.
Pereira, who replaced Ruben Amorim when he left to join Manchester United, was promoted from his role as Sporting Lisbon’s B team boss.
However, Pereira’s tenure was short-lived as he won only three of his eight matches.
Sporting Lisbon confirmed Pereira’s sacking on their official social media handle with a brief statement: “A Lion forever. Thank you, Joao Pereira.”
The decision to sack Pereira came after a series of disappointing results, including a goalless draw against Gil Vincente and a heavy defeat by Arsenal in the Champions League.
Despite Pereira’s short time in charge, Sporting Lisbon’s performance dipped significantly, and the club officials decided to act swiftly.
The club has appointed Rui Borges as new manager to stabilize the team and continue their pursuit of success in both domestic and European competitions.
