The funeral for Ugandan Olympic runner Rebecca Cheptegei, who died in Kenya after being set on fire by her boyfriend, will be held on September 14 in her home country of Uganda.
Cheptegei, 33, passed away from severe burns sustained on September 8, four days after being attacked at her home in western Kenya.
The burial will take place in Kongasis sub-county, Bukwo district, eastern Uganda, which is near the Kenyan border. The tragic event, which has highlighted ongoing issues of gender-based violence, has evoked widespread grief and anger.
Cheptegei’s partner, Dickson Ndiema Marangach, who is being treated for serious burns, is alleged to be responsible for the attack.
The couple’s children, aged nine and 11, reportedly witnessed the incident.
