Al Nassr, the Saudi club of Cristiano Ronaldo, announced the departure of Portuguese coach Luis Castro on Tuesday, just a day after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Iraq’s Al Shorta in the AFC Champions League Elite stage.
The result added to the club’s sluggish start to the domestic season, with Ronaldo’s current contract set to expire next summer.
In a statement posted on X, Al Nassr expressed gratitude to Castro and his staff for their work over the past 14 months, wishing them success in the future.
Castro, 63, is the third coach to leave the club since Ronaldo’s arrival in early 2023. His predecessors, Frenchman Rudi Garcia and Croatian Dinko Jelicic, also had short tenures. Castro had been appointed in July 2023 but struggled to deliver consistent results.
Despite Ronaldo’s presence and a series of high-profile signings, including Neymar and Karim Benzema, Al Nassr has yet to win a Saudi Pro League title during Ronaldo’s time.
His only trophy with the club remains the Arab Club Champions Cup, secured last year.
The club has drawn twice in three league matches to start the new season.
