Cole Palmer made Premier League history on Saturday, scoring four goals in just 20 first-half minutes as Chelsea defeated Brighton 4-2 to move up to third place.
Despite Brighton initially taking the lead through Georginio Rutter after capitalizing on Chelsea’s defensive errors, Palmer took control of the match, becoming the first Premier League player to score four goals in the first half.
Palmer equalized with a pass from Nicolas Jackson, followed by a coolly taken penalty. His hat-trick was sealed with a brilliant free-kick into the top corner, and he completed his scoring spree with a powerful shot past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
Brighton’s Carlos Baleba pulled one back after a mistake by Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez, but Palmer’s remarkable first half secured the win for Chelsea.
Although the second half ended without goals, Chelsea’s early dominance had already decided the match, handing Brighton their first loss under new coach Fabian Hurzeler.
Chelsea’s strong form under Enzo Maresca continues, with the Blues picking up 13 points from their last five games since their opening-weekend loss to Manchester City.
