Victor Osimhen has made history by becoming the third-highest goal scorer for Nigeria’s Super Eagles after netting his 22nd international goal during their 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Napoli striker, who recently joined Galatasaray on loan, came off the bench in the 73rd minute and scored just six minutes later, adding to Ademola Lookman’s earlier strike.
Osimhen’s impressive international record of 22 goals in 36 appearances surpasses Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s 21 goals in 58 appearances, putting him behind only Rashidi Yekini, who holds the all-time record with 37 goals, and Segun Odegbami, who is second with 23 goals.
Osimhen’s consistency and scoring prowess, including his 10 goals during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, have fueled speculation that he could one day break Yekini’s long-standing record.
