Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe claimed a place in the men’s 100m semi-finals at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday.
Both made their Olympic debuts with notable performances.
Ajayi won Heat 5 in 10.02s, defeating Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who finished second at 10.05s.
Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu placed third with a time of 10.06s.
In Heat 4, Ashe finished fourth behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown, and Thailand’s Thurpool Bonboon, but advanced to the semifinals by securing the last non-automatic spot.
In swimming, Adaku Nwandu finished second in Heat 6 of the women’s 50m Freestyle behind Elizaveta Pecherskikh.
Despite her strong performance, the 16-year-old did not qualify for the final.
