Olympic event Postponed Due to Lack of Wind

A lack of wind in Marseilles caused a false start to the sailing regatta.

With a gentle breeze barely reaching three knots, all the IQFoil windsurfing races were postponed, frustrating GB’s Sam Sills and Emma Wilson.

Both Wilson, a bronze medalist in the previous RSX class in Tokyo, and Sills left the harbor to get out onto the water, but that was as far as it went.

Competitors need to “pump” their craft with an in-and-out action to get the board out of the water and use the carbon foil.

However, with insufficient wind for any of the sailors to get their boats into racing order, the two fleets were summoned back to land after a couple of hours.

When the wind did not pick up by mid-afternoon, all scheduled races for the day were postponed by 24 hours.

Despite the wind issues, the two 49er and 49er FX skiff sailing crews were still able to get out and compete.
