Nigeria’s Super Falcons secure first Olympic ticket in 16 years

Nigeria’s national football team (Women), the Super Falcons booked a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games after playing out a 0-0 draw against Banyana Banyana of South Africa at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pretoria, on Tuesday.

The Nigerians coached by Randy Waldrum won the final qualifying round contest 1-0 on aggregate due a 1-0 win in Abuja a week ago.

At Pretoria on Tuesday, Nigeria carved out the first chance of the game with Kaylin Swart saving Chinwendu Ihezuo’s cross.

The Super Falcons were in total control of the game in the first half, with the hosts struggling to create any clear cut opportunity.

Goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie needed to be at her twice to deny the South Africans in the second half.

It will be the first time Nigeria will qualify for the Olympics since 2008.

They are drawn in a tough-looking first round group that has world champions Spain, Japan and Brazil at the Paris 2024.
