Nigeria faces Benin in a must-win WCQ

Nigeria’s National Team, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be involved in an all-important match against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic on Monday

The match is a must-win if the Super Eagles are to stand a chance of flexing their muscles against the best in the world at the 2026 World Cup.

Nigeria, currently fifth on the log, have drawn their previous three matches against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Their most recent match ended in a 1-1 stalemate against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Their opponents, Benin Republic, coached by ex-Super Eagles gaffer Gernot Rohr, have also experienced a mixed start to their campaign as only one point separate them from Nigeria.

The Cheetahs lost their opening match to South Africa, drew against Lesotho and secured a 1-0 victory over Rwanda in their previous game.

The Head-to-Head record favours Nigeria who have dominated Benin Republic, winning 13 of their 16 encounters, with two draws and one loss.

The game is billed to hold on Monday, June 10, 2024, 5 pm Nigerian time at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
