New Man Utd Manager jets to Manchester

Former Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, along with his five assistants Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Paulo Barreira, Emanuel Ferro, and Jorge Vital, departed from Beja on an 11am flight to Manchester on Monday morning.

The group is expected to arrive in Manchester just before 2pm UK time.

Amorim enjoyed a memorable farewell at Sporting on Sunday night, less than 12 hours before heading to his new role with Manchester United. Sporting secured a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory over Braga.

The 39-year-old head coach is now focused on Manchester United, where he will engage in crucial discussions with interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. After Sunday’s match against Braga,

Amorim praised van Nistelrooy for his excellent work with the Red Devils following Erik ten Hag’s departure. Van Nistelrooy, who took over in late October, has led Manchester United to an unbeaten run of four games, with three wins and one draw. His latest success was a 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday.

Amorim commented on van Nistelrooy’s position, stating, “He did a great job. I have to talk with him tomorrow. Then I will explain everything. I am very clear, and I will tell you like it is. Let’s wait until tomorrow.”

While Manchester United fans hope van Nistelrooy, 48, remains at Old Trafford in some capacity, the Dutchman has remained reserved about his future.

Reflecting on his recent stint, van Nistelrooy said, “It felt like a closure for that period, and the future is open. It was a beautiful moment to share with the supporters.”

There’s much anticipation around how Amorim will navigate his new role and the potential collaboration with van Nistelrooy.
