European Giant, Manchester United have confirmed that they will knock down the famous Old Trafford and build a brand-new state of the art stadium.
Discussions over the future of the ground have taken center-stage and Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been an advocate for the plans, which will now go ahead.
A joint taskforce has been set up to consider options for regenerating the Old Trafford area of Manchester with the new stadium at the heart of the project.
The taskforce is headed by Lord Sebastian Coe and includes former United defender Gary Neville.
The plan is to build a world-leading stadium in the heart of a vibrant communities, and the move has been driven by Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team, who have taken a 25 per cent stake in the club.
In a statement released by United, they will seek investment partners for what would be a massive project.
It was revealed that the group ‘will assess the feasibility of a new stadium of national significance equipped to host international games and finals, as well as providing a modernised home for Manchester United.’
Old Trafford has been United’s home ground since 1910, and underwent several expansions in the 1990s and 2000s, including the addition of extra tiers to the North, West and East Stands, almost returning the stadium to its original capacity of 80,000.
