Barbora Krejčíková is Wimbledon champion.
She claimed the title by defeating Jasmine Paolini in three sets, securing her second grand slam title with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory.
The 28-year-old becomes the second Czech player in consecutive years to claim the Venus Rosewater Dish, following Marketa Vondrousova’s triumph last year. Krejcikova, seeded 31st, surprised many by reaching the final but displayed strong form in the decisive set, adding to her French Open title from 2021.
In a tense finale, Krejčíková had to fend off two break points before sealing the match with her third Championship point.
Paolini battled back to force the third set after a one-sided start, but was unable to complete the comeback and gave away the decisive break with a double fault in the third.
The seventh seed, who was bidding to became the first player from Italy to win the women’s title, was also beaten in the French Open final last month but can still take pride at her breakthrough year.
