Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has received a 28-day suspension from boxing by the British Boxing Board of Control following his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois on September 30, 2024, at Wembley Stadium.

In that fight, Joshua was knocked down four times and ultimately stopped in the fifth round by Dubois’ powerful right hand.

This suspension, which is a standard medical precaution after a KO or TKO loss, prevents Joshua from entering the ring during this period. However, with no upcoming fights confirmed, this enforced break is not expected to significantly impact Joshua’s immediate plans.

The loss to Dubois marks Joshua’s fourth professional defeat, following earlier setbacks against Andy Ruiz Jr. and Oleksandr Usyk.

Despite speculation regarding his future, Joshua has firmly dismissed retirement discussions, expressing a strong desire to return stronger than ever. He has hinted at the possibility of invoking a rematch clause to face Dubois again.

In a social media message, Joshua reflected on his career, stating, “We’ve got to look at the positives… It’s far from over yet,” while vowing to take the necessary steps to regain his status at the top. Promoter Eddie Hearn has also mentioned potential future matchups, including a highly anticipated fight with Tyson Fury.

Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, indicated that Dubois could be back in the ring as early as February, leaving open the possibility of a rematch with Joshua if he decides to pursue it. Meanwhile, Joshua may also await the outcome of the upcoming Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk bout scheduled for December 2024.
