Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has clarified that he remains in charge of the Nigerian national football team, despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise.
Speaking on his return to Abuja, Eguavoen explained that his initial statement was misinterpreted. He emphasized that his mandate covered two matches — the victories against Benin Republic and the draw with Rwanda in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He also noted that he intends to discuss the next steps with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding future games in the qualifying series.
Eguavoen, who was appointed interim coach following the decline of German coach Bruno Labbadia to assume the role, expressed disappointment at the spread of false information.
He reiterated that he remains the technical director of the NFF and is still responsible for leading the Super Eagles at this time.
Eguavoen’s side managed a 3-0 win over Benin Republic but was held to a goalless draw by Rwanda.
