Haaland shows Newcomers Ipswich how it’s done

Erling Haaland delivered a hat-trick performance as Manchester City came from behind to defeat newly-promoted Ipswich 4-1 on Saturday.

Ipswich stunned the home crowd at the Etihad when Sammie Szmodics scored early, giving the visitors a dream start.

However, Manchester City quickly responded, with Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne finding the back of the net in quick succession, turning the game around with three goals in just four minutes.

Haaland completed his hat-trick late in the match with a powerful strike from outside the box, marking his seventh Premier League hat-trick in just 68 games. This victory sees City move to the top of the Premier League table with six points from their opening two games of the season.

The match also saw City celebrate their fourth consecutive league title, with former captain Ilkay Gundogan returning to the Etihad and taking a place on the bench. Despite Ipswich’s early goal and a valiant effort, they could not hold back the reigning champions.

Ben Johnson’s pass set up Szmodics’ goal, marking Ipswich’s first Premier League goal in 22 years. However, City quickly regained control.

Haaland equalized from the penalty spot after Savinho was fouled, and moments later, De Bruyne capitalized on a mistake from Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, slotting into an empty net. Haaland then added his second with a clinical finish after a precise De Bruyne assist.

Despite City’s dominance, Ipswich defended well for much of the match, but Haaland sealed the result late on, continuing his prolific form as City secured the three points.
