Manchester City has granted their star striker Erling Haaland compassionate leave following the death of his uncle, Ivar Eggja.
The Norwegian forward, who was very close to Eggja, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, posting a picture of them holding hands in the hospital.
Haaland, who returned to Manchester after his Nations League break, has been given the option to take time off to mourn. Manager Pep Guardiola reportedly emphasized that family takes priority and supported Haaland’s decision to step away from football temporarily.
As a result, Haaland is expected to miss Manchester City’s upcoming match against Brentford.
Despite this, the team will aim to maintain their perfect start to the season in his absence.
Haaland previously demonstrated resilience when he played through grief following the passing of his paternal grandmother earlier this year.
