The Super Eagles of Nigeria recited the ‘Arise O Compatriot’ anthem as opposed to the newly authorized ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’ in an ongoing clash against Benin Republic in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
President Bola Tinubu on May 29, a day commemorating Nigeria’s 25th anniversary of uninterrupted democracy, signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law.
The bill reinstated the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” and declared the “Arise ‘O’ Compatriots” void.
News VEO reported that the National Orientation Agency (NOA) released a standardized version of the Nigerian Anthem.
