The Leverkusen city council is reviewing the criteria for formally dedicating a street, square, or road in honor of Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso.
Alonso guided Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title, with the team clinching the championship following a remarkable 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen on Sunday.
Before the match, fans adorned street signs with “Xabi-Alonso-Allee” (Xabi Alonso Avenue) stickers, prompting the city to explore avenues to formalize this tribute.
Additionally, a statement on Monday revealed plans to grant honorary citizenship of the city to Alonso, sporting director Simon Rolfes, and CEO Fernando Carro.
