Boniface the star of the show as Leverkusen bounce back

Victor Boniface celebrates after bagging a goal against TSG Hoffenheim

Bayer Leverkusen rebounded from their 3-2 loss to RB Leipzig in Bundesliga matchweek two with a commanding 4-1 victory over TSG Hoffenheim at the PreZero Arena. Victor Boniface stole the show, contributing two goals and an assist to lead Leverkusen to a comprehensive win.

Leverkusen started brightly, and it took just 17 minutes for Boniface to find space on the right, delivering a perfect pass for Martin Terrier to score his first Bundesliga goal from close range. Leverkusen’s second goal seemed inevitable, and Boniface himself added to the tally after a slick pass from Granit Xhaka.

The Nigerian danced past Hoffenheim’s Alexander Prass before slotting the ball past Oliver Baumann to make it 2-0.

Despite Leverkusen’s dominance, Hoffenheim managed to pull one back when Piero Hincapié misjudged a clearance, allowing Berisha to score on his return from injury. Hoffenheim thought they had equalized minutes later, but Berisha’s second effort was ruled offside.

Leverkusen maintained control in the second half, with Boniface nearly scoring again before Baumann intervened.

However, it was Álex Grimaldo who made the difference by winning a penalty, which Florian Wirtz converted to restore Leverkusen’s two-goal cushion. Boniface sealed the win with a solo run, capping off a brilliant performance as he slotted home Leverkusen’s fourth goal.

This victory solidified Leverkusen’s top-four position, while Hoffenheim’s defensive struggles continued, marking 22 consecutive home games without a clean sheet.
