AFCON: Silver Winning Super Eagles Land Abuja, Iwobi Faces Cyber Bullying

“Thank you, Nigerians,…we are back home…thank you for the love.” This was the caption that accompanied the tweet of Nigeria’s Super Eagles arrival announcement via the Super Eagles x (twitter) account page.

The Super Eagles have arrived in the Federal Capital Territory following their second-place finish at the just concluded African Cup of Nations final in Cotê D’Ivoire.

Nigeria lost 2-1 to the hosts, handing the Ivorians their third AFCON title while the Super Eagles’ unwanted record of losses in the final became five.

Iwobi although, was singled out for bashing by Nigerian fans, forcing the player to quit social media while there were also reports that he was considering quitting the national team.

Iwobi has received support from captain Ahmed Musa as well as his other teammates.

Their arrival was with an honorable breakfast hosted by the Federal Government Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. In attendance was the Minister of sport John Enoh who also encouraged Alex Iwobi to keep his head up after facing heavy criticism from fans in the wake of Nigeria’s loss to Ivory Coast.

Key players in attendance include Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, Ola Aina, Frank Onyeka, Calvin Bassey, Ademola Lookman, Kenneth Omeruo, Joe Aribo and Williams Trost Ekong are at a welcome breakfast current ongoing at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

Members of the coaching crew are also at the breakfast.
