The National Sports Commission (NSC) has officially announced the rescheduling of the 22nd National Sports Festival.
Originally planned for January 12 to 26, 2025, in Ogun State, the event will now take place from May 16 to 30, 2025.
This decision was reached following a joint technical meeting held in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
Bukola Olopade, the Director-General of the NSC, stated that the postponement will provide additional time for the newly established NSC to settle in and establish a sustainable sports economy. It also allows for the implementation of various recommendations made during the meeting.
In addition, the NSC introduced the “Invited Junior Athletes (IJA)” initiative. This initiative aims to promote the development of young talents by having outstanding junior athletes from the National Youth Games compete as a 38th state at the festival.
The zonal eliminations for team sports are now scheduled to take place from February 23 to 28, 2025.
