Woman gets response to job application after 48 years

70-year-old Tizi Hodson from Lincolnshire, UK, has finally received a response to a job application she submitted nearly five decades ago.

Back in 1976, Hodson had applied for a role as a motorcycle stunt rider—a job she was passionate about. After never hearing back, she assumed the application had been unsuccessful.

However, nearly 48 years later, the mystery was solved. Her letter had been stuck behind a drawer at the Staines Post Office all this time and was only discovered during renovation work.

The post office staff returned the letter to Hodson with a note that read, “Late delivery by Staines Post Office. Found behind a drawer. Only about 50 years late.”

Reflecting on the news with amusement, Hodson said, “I always wondered why I never heard back about the job. Now I know.”

Although she didn’t get the chance to pursue her stunt-riding ambitions, Hodson led an adventurous life. She became a snake handler, horse whisperer, aerobatic pilot, and flying instructor, living the thrilling life she had always dreamed of.

Offering advice to her younger self, Hodson said, “I would tell her to go and do everything I’ve done. I’ve had such a wonderful time in life, even if I have broken a few bones.” She recalled writing the letter in her London flat, full of excitement, even joking in her application that she didn’t mind how many bones she might break, as she was used to it.

What makes the story even more remarkable is how the letter found its way back to her after 50 years, despite Hodson having moved house over 50 times and lived in several countries.

The letter, though delayed, serves as a testament to her bold and adventurous spirit, reminding her of the determination that shaped her extraordinary life.
